Expected to be made available in 27" and 16" models, the new EspriTV Internet TV is a single unit that combines both television viewing and Internet access features. Users may choose their own ISP to use with the device and may navigate to any site on the Web they desire (subject to their ISP's restrictions, of course). Further, users may both view Television and surf the 'Net simultaneously, using the set's picture in picture, picture in browser, or browser in picture features.
The Internet browsing features of the television set are based on the Planetweb software, which supports HTML3.2, JavaScript 1.1, parental controls, and SSL2/3 connections. Users navigate the Web/Television using an included wireless keyboard and remote, and a built-in modem provides Internet connectivity for dial-ups through standard phone lines. An external DSL or Cable Modem can also be attached for homes with broadband Internet access. The unit offers support for chat and E-Mail in addition to its browsing and television features.
The EspriTV Internet TV's are expected to be available in the summer of 2001, at a retail price of $998 (27") and $798 (16").
