The MIMIC Virtual Labs provide a simulated environment with multiple devices (routers, switches, etc.) for training, evaluation, or certification purposes. Primary current offerings in the MIMIC Virtual Lab family include MIMIC Virtual Lab Enterprise, and MIMIC Virtual Lab CCNA.
MIMIC Virtual Lab Enterprise simulates multiple manageable devices, such as routers, hubs, switches, probes, workstations, cable modems and printers.
It enables Enterprise users to evaluate management applications. They can run tests using the simulated network, such as disabling virtual devices to see how the management application reacts. They are also free to experiment with additions and changes to the network to test features like inventory management.
Features include:
- Load multiple labs, simulate them and switch between them
- Protocols supported: SNMPv1, SNMPv2, SNMPv3, TL1, TFTP, Telnet and Cisco IOS
- View topology map with connections and addresses
- Connect to each device using a management application or Telnet from anywhere on the network
- Start or stop any device individually or in a group
- Choose from many Lab Exercises to create different network scenarios
- MIB Browser to view MIB information for an individual device
- Update Wizard to notify and to update automatically when a new version, Lab or Exercise is released
- View the individual device or the entire network configuration information
MIMIC Virtual Lab CCNA creates a lab environment with a network of Cisco Routers and Switches, providing a practice environment for network engineers.
The lab allows engineers to interact with the routers and switches, and consists of a network of 7 devices: three Cisco Routers (2620, 3640 and 7206) and 4 Cisco Switches (2950, 3550 (2) and 6500). A large set of IOS Commands for Router and Switch operations is supported.
Users can Telnet in to any of these devices from local or remote machines as if they are connecting to real devices. Users can also connect to it using a Console connection. Any number of users can connect at a time. The lab fully supports Cisco IOS software and SNMPv1, v2, v2c, v3.
The lab includes many exercises and tutorials. A few samples include:
- Basic IOS command line interface
- Configure a default route
- Configure Standard Access List on Firewall Routers
- Configure eBGP mode BGP routing
Actual device operations supported include:
- Logging in/out, and get into and out of different modes; i.e., User, Privileged, Configuration, Interface
- Set passwords, IP addresses, clock rates, hostname, bandwidth
- Assign routing protocols: RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS
- Configuration of ISDN, CDP, PPP, Frame Relay ACL and NAT protocols
and more.
