Net2Phone enables free PC-to-PC voice conversation over the 'Net via Net2Phone's IP telephony network. Along with the PC-to-PC service, Net2Phone users can take advantage of Net2Phone's low global rates for PC-to-Phone service, with rates significantly below traditional international long distance. Previously offering free PC-Phone calling for calls that both originate and are received within the US, the latest version of the Net2Phone software limits the free US calling feature to 5 minutes; after which the per minute rate is 2 cents.

Those using Net2Phone's PC-to-PC service must designate a Net2Phone virtual number or nickname in order to be called by another PC.

Additional features of the Net2Phone service include an Active Contact List, i.e., the ability to see which of your Net2Phone contacts (i.e., friends or colleagues that also run Net2Phone) are currently online; and the ability to send instant text messages to other Net2Phone users.

The free software is currently available for Windows-based machines and can be downloaded from Net2Phone's Web site. In addition, Net2Phone is often packaged with other leading software downloads, including the recently released Netscape 6.
