GoLive 6.0

Now With Web Workgroup Server

GoLive is a Web design and publishing tool available for both the Mac and Windows platforms. "By bringing this key product cross-platform," says Mark Asher, Group Product Manager of Adobe, "we are satisfying a crucial need for customers who want to extend the benefits of the powerful visual Web design capabilities of GoLive software throughout their organizations."

Formerly known as GoLive CyberStudio (which was aquired by Adobe in January of 1999), GoLive features visual page layout, color coded source code control, and global site management capabilities. Visually oriented designers can make use of GoLive's grid and ruler, to-the-pixel layout tools; while professional coders and scripters will appreciate the ability to view and edit the source files directly from within the page layout window. Additional features include ready-to-use drop in JavaScript actions (and an integrated JavaScript editor with color coded syntax checking), XML support, and the ability to import and edit ASP pages. Once the pages are designed, Webmasters can make use of GoLive's visual site management window, built-in FTP client, and site-wide templates and dynamic components to manage and alter large sites within a visual environment.

Features originally introduced in version 5.0 include Dynamic Link for ASP - a means of creating pages that access ODBC compliant databases with GoLive automatically generating the necessary ASP code; 360Code allowing developers to move HTML/JavaScript to and from text or external editors without altering the stucture of the document; and enhanced site mapping tools enabling the developer to prototype entire sites by designing the structure of pages and how they relate to one another visually.

Enhancements to the latest version of GoLive (6.0) include the addition of the Web Workgroup Server, extended support for Wireless devices, and a QuickTime 5 editing environment. As its name implies, the Web Workgroup Server provides file sharing, versioning, and rollback features especially useful for development teams and supports any WebDAV enabled dev interface. Extended wireless content authoring features now include support for XHTML, CHTML, and WML and the GoLive Windows package adds Nokia WAP/XHTML and NTT DoCoMo i-mode emulators. Finally, the QuickTime editing environment sports conversion, optimization, and visual authoring features supporting audio, video, SWF, SVG, and SMIL.

GoLive 6.0 also offers additional support specifically for the integration of server side scripting languages; such as the inclusion of a customized version of the Zend Debugger for PHP scripting.

GoLive 6.0 is now available and is priced at $399 (includes the Web Workgroup Server). The new version is available individually, as part of Adobe's "Web Collection," (which consists of GoLive, Illustrator, LiveMotion, and Photoshop), or as a bundled package with LiveMotion 2.0 (see related link below).
