AscToHTML is a Web authoring utility that converts standard ASCII text documents into their HTML equivalents. It has the ability to analyze and recognize key structural elements within a plain text page such as bulleted/indented lists, tables, and headings and output the appropriate HTML for displaying that same information within a Web browser. Additionally, the program can automatically recognize and convert embedded URLS (including mail/Usenet headers) and convert them to hyperlinks as appropriate.
In addition to its translation capabilities, Web authors can also create policy files which allow for the automatic insertion of titles, colors, and specific tags within the target document. Policy files can be saved and reused. Authors may also automatically add timestamp information and "content" links based on the header structure of the scanned document.
The program is available now. On Windows platforms the program is distributed as shareware ($40) and it is freeware on OpenVMS. A free 30 day trial version and site licenses are also available.
