Validian ASI

Validian ASI is a tool for developers that provides the ability to network applications in such a way that their communications with one another are protected, and that the applications themselves are able to be authenticated before they can communicate with one another. The platform is built to work on Windows 2000/XP Pro platforms, and provides both application authentication and encrypted communications at the network application layer.

Applications can be ASI enabled via the Validian ASI SDK (freshly out of beta and now available in its initial 1.0 incarnation). According to the vendor, the SDK allows developers to implement the data transport and application authentication into their apps with "...no knowledge of or expertise in security or IP networking" and can be used to enable both client/server and distributed apps.

The Validian ASI concept envelops the applications in a virtual Internet layer with its own addressing scheme; within this layer the applications can locate one another across the network without needing a hard IP address reference. Such application domains can span a single network, or encompass multiple computers in multiple networks. Once authenticated, all communications between the two applications are automatically encrypted/decrypted (AES, DES, 3DES_EDE2, GOST, RC2, RC5, RC6, Rijndael and Twofish) for data protection. The vendor notes support for multiple transport protocols (TCP, UDP, HTTP, RAW) and claims support for network topologies including public and private addressable networks.

Other features of the Validian ASI platform include the automated adjustment of packet size based on network bandwidth; and the ability to interface with multiple application languages including C, C++, and Java. Key generation, distribution, and management capabilities are also included.
