The EasyEncrypt Disk Drive Upgrade Kit provides the tools and components necessary to allow individuals to transfer the existing contents of their laptop hard drives--including both the O/S and data--to a hardware encrypted hard drive. Once the transfer is complete, the drives can be swapped, with the encrypted drive then taking over the main HD responsibilities in the laptop; and the old drive placed in an external enclosure (included) and potentially used as a backup or external drive (but not encrypted). The kit is targeted to Windows (2000/XP/Vista) laptops currently loaded with a SATA hard drive.
Components of the kit include a software CD, documentation, a 160 GB hardware encrypted drive, necessary USB cables for external connectivity, an external drive enclosure, and a travel pouch.
Software-wise, the kit relies on the vendor's BounceBack software for the initial transfer of data. The provided drive, on the other hand, is a 160 GB drive equipped with AES 128 bit hardware encryption; all data written to the drive is encrypted with a pre-boot password (BIOS level ATA) necessary to access the data. Physically, the 2.5" format drive spins at 5400 RPM, includes an 8 MB data buffer, and lists a seek time of 12ms.
A three year limited warranty is included standard.
The EasyEncrypt Disk Drive Upgrade Kit is available now, with a listed price of about $300. Contact CMS Products for further information.
