SANbox

FC Switches for Entry Level to Core Deployments

QLogic's SANbox product line are FC switches offered in configurations targeting entry-level to core deployment scenarios. Port speeds of 2, 4, 8, and 10 Gb are offered in units with fixed or modular configurations and desktop or rackmountable form factors.

Currently available in the SANbox line are:

- SANbox Express 1400: The 1400 takes up half of a single rack unit (two units can be deployed side-by-side in a single rack unit) and consists of 10 of the user's choice of auto-sensing and self-configuring 2 Gb/sec or 4 Gb/sec FC ports. Configuration wizards are provided for installation, scaling, and zoning; and Telnet and SNMP management access is available.

- SANbox 5600Q: A stackable entry in which each chassis boasts 16 4 Gb/sec ports; 8 are lit up on entry-level implementations and the remaining ports can be activated via software upgrades in 4-port increments. 4 10 Gb ISL ports for chassis-to-chassis connections are also included (with activation optional). Up to 6 units can be stacked, and single and dual power supply configurations are available.

- SANbox 5802V: The 5802V extends the 5000 series offerings to support 8 Gb/sec ports, with up to 20 ports possible per chassis (again, 8 initially lit up and can be increased in 4-port increments). Four 10 Gb/sec ISL ports are also included by default; these can be upgraded (non-disruptively) to 20 Gb/sec when needed by the customer.

- SANbox 9000: A modular offering targeted to core network deployments. The SANbox 9000 is a 4U chassis that includes a built-in and dedicated 800Gb/sec "HyperStack" connection between up to two chassis. Each chassis offers up to 8 slots that can be populated with any mix of 4Gb, 8Gb, or 10Gb (Inter-Switch Links) blades (up to 128 ports; a dual-chassis implementation supports up to 256 total ports. 10 Gb/sec ISL blades have 4 ports--up to 32 per chassis). Available modules for the SANbox 9000 include iSCSI and FCIP modules (w/two 1 Gb Ethernet ports, and two 2 Gb/sec FC ports); these are the half-wide 1U modules listed as the SANbox 6000 series iSRs--they are not blades themselves. HA features include redundant, hot swappable I/O, CPU, power supply, and fan blades.

The SANbox product line is available now. Example base MSRPs are $1,646 (SANbox 1404), $10,164 (SANbox 5802V), and $51,440 (SANbox 9100).
