SN-2500 R2

Network Engines, Incorporated's (NEI) SN-2500 R2 is a 2U external drive enclosure for use with SANs that can be loaded with up to 12 SAS or SATA drives (or a combination of the two). Up to four enclosures can be stacked in a system for a maximum capacity of up to 48 drives. Targeted to OEMs and ISVs, the enclosures sport hot-swappable/redundant powers supplies in AC or DC flavors and NEBS Level 3 certification.

The enclosures ship in either single or dual (hot-swap/redundant) RAID controller configurations, with support for RAID levels of 0, 1, 3, 5, 1+0 or JBOD and an optional 72-hour cache backup battery. Either 512 MB or 1 GB of cache is supplied per controller, and support is provided for the definition of up to 1,024 volumes per system.

As mentioned above, both SAS and SATA drives are supported in the system; currently offered SAS drives are 10K or 15K RPM drives (the higher capacity drives are the 10Ks) in capacities of 73 GB to 450 GB; while the SATA drives are 7200 RPM drives in capacities of 500 GB to 1 TB.

Connectivity-wise, RAID controllers are available supporting FC, SAS, or iSCSI communications; with each controller supporting dual 4 Gb/sec FC ports, three x4 SAS links, or dual iSCSI ports. A pair of 10/100 ports and a pair of serial ports (9-pin RS-232) on the controller tray are also included.

Other features include redundant fans, built-in volume snapshot capabilities, and a pair of temperature sensors on the backplane for drive cage temperature monitoring.
