The VTrak series consists of external, block-based RAID storage enclosures. Enclosure connectivity ranges from Ultra320 SCSI through SAS, iSCSI, and FC ports; while the disks themselves can be SAS or SATA II. An additional model, the VTrak J310/J610, offers JBOD storage with a SAS interface (SAS/SATA disks).
Each of the E-Series and J-Series enclosures is offered with either single or dual (active/active) controllers, and with the user's choice of 4 Gb/sec FC or SAS (4x 3Gb/sec Wide or 3Gb/sec) interfaces. Device management is performed via included Web-based interface software, which leverages a standard Ethernet port on the enclosures. SNMP is also supported for integration with third party management applications. The other series in the product line, the M-Series, is targeted to mid-range to entry level deployments and are single controller boxes with SATA drives for iSCSI or DAS (U320 SCSI) deployments.
The E-Series enclosures utilize SAS/SATA drive bays and support the simultaneous use of both drive types in the system. Entries in this product line include the 2U 310 and the 3U 610, with 12 and 16 drive bays, respectively and support for RAID levels of 0, 1, 1E, 10, 5, 6, 50, and 60. The J-Series enclosures can be used to expand E-Series capacity; J-Series enclosures are also offered in 12 and 16-bay flavors. Up to 4 JBOD enclosures can be used in conjunction with the E-Series (J-Series enclosures can be used individually, as well), meaning the total potential drives bays of a system numbers 80.
The M-Series enclosures are 8 (210), 12 (310), and 16 (610) bay enclosures with a choice of U320 SCSI or iSCSI connectivity.
The VTraks offered through the vendor's normal distribution channels ship without drives and are Windows and Linux compatible; but a version of the VTrak E-Series is also available through the Apple store for use with Mac platforms. New to these Mac-specific VTraks is support for 1 TB drives and support for Bonjour discovery.
