The Alcatel OmniSwitch 6800 series is a line of stackable switches with 24 or 48 ports. The products are currently available in two primary lines: The 6800 series and the 6850 series. Each of the switches is available in a standard and an "L" model. Both include 10/100/1000 capable ports; in the standard model the Gigabit connectivity to the dekstop is included while in the "L" models Gigabit connectivity can be activated by the customer later via a software key. "U" versions of the switches, targeted for stand-alone use, are also offered.
With the stackable switches up to 8 switches can be stacked in a "Virtual Chassis" that can be managed as a single entity with a single IP address.
Among the current offerings:
- OS6800-24: 1U 24 port 10/100/1000 stackable fixed chassis, and four combo ports (copper or fiber GigE).
- OS6800-48: 1U 48 port 10/100/1000 stackable fixed chassis, four combo ports, and an expansion slot that supports a modular one or two port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module
- OS6800-U24: 1U 24 port miniGBIC (SFP) stand alone fixed chassis, four 10/100/1000BaseT combo ports, and an expansion slot that supports a modular one or two port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module
The 6850 series offerings (also available in 24 and 48 port flavors, in standard and software upgradeable "L" models) additionally provide IPv6 and models with or without Power over Ethernet support. The switches are served with AC and DC power with standard and high-power PoE, and with or without 10-Gigabit uplinks.
New to the product line is the introduction of the 6855 model, a ruggedized switch targeted specifically to industrial deployments. The 6855 is offered in a half-rack 10 port FC or 14 port copper model, as well as a full-rack width unit with 24 ports (fiber or copper).
