The Magnum products from GarrettCom consists of a variety of 10/100Mb and Gig Ethernet connectivity components--available separately--facilitating Ethernet communications especially in industrial deployments, such as factory floors. Fiber ports are integrated in most components; and the products are commonly delivered to accept AC power input (optional 24VDC or -48VDC) and DIN-rail mounting. The factory floor and outdoor versions of the devices also typically have integral DC power terminal blocks for 12V, 24V, or -48VDC.
A sampling of the products currently available in the Magnum line:
- ES42 Edge Switch, with 6 ports, up to 2 of which may be 100 Mb fiber (all others 10/100 copper). As is the case with many Magnum components, the ES42 is available in three models; for office (temperature rated from 0 to 40 degrees celsius), factory floor (-25 to 60 degrees celsius) or outdoor (-40 to 75 degrees celsius). AC power is available for all models; the factory floor and outdoor models have integral DC terminal blocks and dual-source power features.
- PES42P Edge Switch, which is similar to the ES42, with the exception that it is offered only in the premium (highest grade, -40 to 75 degrees celsius) configuration, and that the four fixed copper ports all deliver PoE (802.3af).
- ESD42 Edge Switch, with 4 10/100 RJ-45 ports for connectivity to local devices and dual, independent uplink (copper or fiber) providing redundant network connectivity in case one of the uplinks fails (possibly due to an upstream switch failure, for example). When such a failure is detected, the vendor notes that the switch transfers upstream network activity to the other port, typically within 300 milliseconds.
- CS14 Converter Switch, which provides one 100 Mb fiber port and two 10/100 copper switch ports. The RJ-45 ports support auto-negotiation (10/100) and all fiber types (multi-mode and single-mode, standard size ST, SC, FC and Small-Form-Factor MTRJ, LC) are supported. A new entry in the Converter Switch line is the CSG14, which updates the units for Gig communications (dual 10/100/1000 copper ports, and a single Gb Fiber port supporting single or multi-mode connections).
- P80F Personal Switches, with built-in fiber ports (supported types include 100Mb ST multi-mode, 100Mb MTRJ multi-mode, 100Mb SC multi-mode, 100Mb SC single-mode, 20km 100Mb SC "long-reach" single mode (40km), and RFQ for specialty Fiber port types). The P80Fs sport a MTBF rating of over 6 years.
- PS14P: Supplies four ports of PoE enabled Ethernet connectivity, for powering 802.3af-compliant devices via the Ethernet cable. The switch and the attached devices are powered from an integrated -48V DC terminal block; with auto-sensing of 802.3af-compliant devices allowing for the attachment of both PoE and standard gear (the power signal is blocked for non-802.3af compliant devices). The PS14P switch supports the Power-over-Ethernet PSE standard for over-current protection, under-current detection, and fault protection.
Pricing for the new CSG14 converters starts at $400; they are available now.
