ISL Light provides remote access to a workstation allowing the remote user to view the remote PC and control the end user's mouse and keyboard. The support technician and the end user connect to one another through the Web, with all communications secured via SSL (AES 256 bit).
The platform consists of three components.
The ISL Light Desk component is installed on the support technician's PC. When the technician needs to establish a connection to a remote user, it launches this component, which in turn establishes a connection to the Conference Proxy.
The Conference Proxy, which is installed at the corporate firewall (vendor hosted platforms are also available, see below), receives this connection request and generates a unique connection code that it then returns to the ISL Light Desk component.
The end user downloads and installs a single exe--the ISL Light Client component--from the support technician's (or the vendor's) site. This exe requires no specific configuration or setup. Once launched, the client inputs the unique code delivered to the ISL Light Desk component (typically this portion of the communication is handled by phone between the technician and the end user) and the connection is established.
Once connected, the end user can grant or revoke permission to the technician to remotely control their desktop (mouse, keyboard) as well as view their desktops. The user may also choose to share only a specific application, as opposed to the entire desktop. Other features include chat, whiteboarding, and drag and drop file transfer capabilities.
Additional key features in ISL Light include support for audio and video chat between the technician and client; and support for the vendor's ISL Grid Network. As its name implies, the ISL Grid consists of multiple Conference Proxy servers featuring load balancing based on performance (i.e., the server is selected with the least load) and/or geography (the server is selected that is geographically closest).
Also available from the vendor is ISL AlwaysOn, which allows a technician to remotely support a computer or server without requiring that a client be present at the targeted machine.
New features in the latest ISL Light release include support for file synchronization between the local and remote machine; support for reboot and reconnect within a session; and the ability to record sessions for later review.
ISL Light is now sold in an "All in one" bundle of products from the vendor, which includes the above mentioned ISL Light and ISL Always On, in addition to the vendor's ISL Pronto (Live chat with customers) and ISL Groop (online meetings) products. Subscription license options range from pay for use coupons (each coupon purchases 500 minutes of use) priced at $140, to Corporate subscriptions (yearly) for $7,990 that include unlimited use and support for up to 25 active connections. Server licenses are also offered; with pricing ranging from $1,390 (one active connection) to $16,900 (unlimited active connections).
