Billed as "search and stream" technology for the Web, Friskit is a combined audio player (based on and requiring RealNetworks' RealPlayer) and streaming search engine. The technology allows users to search for music streams from directly within the player across the Web based on artist, genre, or predefined mixes such as "Dance Party," "Hits of the 60s," etc. Retrieved streams are automatically played continuously through the player as they are found.
Additional features allow users to create their own mixes by bookmarking selected streams into a "My Music" area of the player; send selected streams directly to friends via E-Mail (the recipient is sent a link that opens the Friskit player and retrieves the selected stream); or purchase selected streams directly from partnering e-tailers.
Launched initially as a beta to demonstrate the Friskit technology, Friskit, Inc. seeks to license their platform to partners, who would provide customized versions of the Friskit players from their sites and/or provide a custom stream database to be used in the player's search mechanism.
The beta version of the Friskit player can be launched free from the Friskit site. For users who already have the RealPlayer Basic (V7 or above) and compatible browsers, no downloads are necessary.
