Fujitsu Biometric eDirectory Login

NMAS-Based Biometric Login to eDirectory

The Fujitsu Biometric eDirectory Login product line provides the ability to login to Novell Networks' eDirectory via biometric identification. Specifically, users can login to their eDirectory-based Novell resources by touching or swiping a fingerprint sensor attached to the USB port of their PC.

The kit features the ability to either verify an individual, wherein the user provides both their user id and their fingerprint--which is then compared to a stored version of their fingerprint for authentication (1-1 matching); or identify an individual, where the user provides only their fingerprint and the technology matches it against all stored fingerprints for authentication (1-many matching).

Like the SDKs from Fujitsu recently announced (see the related link in the fact sheet), the Biometric eDirectory Login products are provided via a partnership with 123ID. Fujitsu provides either the MBF200 touch sensor or MBF320 Sweep Sensor (two kits are available), while 123ID provides their Universal Matching technology for the capture and verification/identification of the fingerprints. The platform is tied into eDirectory via the (required) Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS) running on eDirectory. Included with the 123ID technology are NICITS 378 and FIPS-201 compliant templates.

Features of the platform include support for Post-Login self-enrollment, where the user can use a limited-privilege NDS password for purposes of logging in to enroll their fingerprint in the system; support for remote client authentication; support for complementary co-existence with other NMAS methods, including SecureLogin; and interoperability support for any biometric scanners supported by 123ID.

The products are offered in administrator and client kits (additional client kits can be purchased separately), with administrator kit pricing set at $250 and client kit pricing set at $100. The products are expected to be available in September.
