The AVIRA Desktop family currently consists of AVIRA Desktop for Windows, and AVIRA Desktop for UNIX. Both are targeted to home and business users, and offer the ability to scan not only for viruses, but also trojans, backdoor programs, worms, etc. AVIRA detects Adware and Spyware, double extension files and unusual runtime compression tools. Automatic updates are provided for the anti-virus signatures and the anti-virus engine.
AVIRA Desktop for Windows constantly scans your computer for malicious programs (such as viruses, Trojans, backdoor programs, hoaxes, worms, dialers etc.), monitoring every action executed by the user or by the operating system. Actions include repair, delete, block, rename and quarantine programs or files. The application also features protection against unknown boot-sector viruses, issuing alerts for boot sector suspicious formats.

Designed for Linux platforms with 2.2 Kernel versions and glibc 2.2 or higher, AVIRA Desktop for UNIX incorporates different antivirus modules. It offers permanent antivirus protection by monitoring your system's active processes and blocking malware. You can make your own decisions and set the type of action to take on the infected files: isolate, disinfect, or remove. AVIRA Desktop for UNIX logs all important actions and can send relevant notifications, including E-mail/network warnings in case of program errors or virus detections.
AVIRA Desktop for UNIX features include:
- On-access virus protection, employing the Dazuko kernel module on Linux platforms
- Command line scanner (on-demand): configurable anti-virus scanning for all known malware types
- Runs silently in the background, immediately blocking the access to infected files
