RoamAnywhere Mobility Router

Transfers Mobile Calls from Enterprise WiFi to Cellular, VV

The core offering from Agito Networks is their RoamAnywhere Mobility Router, which enables Enterprises to automatically route their employee's Enterprise mobile communications over the organization's WiFi network or the cellular network, depending on the end user's physical location and administrative defined policies.

The RoamAnywhere Mobility Router is offered in two primary flavors: the 2000 series, with support for up to 100 users per appliance; and the 4000 series, with support for up to 1,000 users per appliance. Both are 1U boxes with dual 10/100/1000 ports, dual USB ports, and a 9 pin RS-232 console port. A required software client that is loaded/runs directly on the user's handset (initially supported are the Nokia/Symbian eSeries and nSeries dual mode phones; with support for Windows Mobile 6 dual mode phones expected in 2008, dependent on availability of the handsets) completes the product platform. The vendor notes that the client actually offloads much of the router's functionality, and can be deployed over the air.

A key feature of the vendor's platform is their ability to automatically route and handover mobile communications (handovers are executed in less than a tenth of a second) based both on the physical location of the individual (are they at home, or the office) as well as administrative defined policies, including such metrics as the source of the call (the calling party), time zone, time of day, date or date ranges. Such policies can be defined to automatically, for example, force all Enterprise calls within the building to be routed through corporate WiFi without requiring manual end user (or administrator) intervention.

The platform lists support for multiple carriers and Enterprise PBX systems; including AT&T Wireless/Cingular, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA, Sprint/Nextel, Cisco CCM/UCM 5.x+, Avaya Communications Manager 3.x+, and Microsoft OCS 2007+. PBX integration, in particular, enables the extension of PBX features to the mobile user: In addition to the above described capability of calls placed to the user's Enterprise number being able to reach the user's cell phone whether they are physically in or outside the organization, the user can also leverage the features available to them through the PBX including extension dialing, call history, call hold, etc.

Other features of the platform include support for TLS encryption of communications between the handset and the router; the separation of control and data/media traffic between the handset and router; GUI-based management; integration with MS A/D and LDAP; and real-time logging and standard CDR support for usage reporting and session logging.

New features of the latest release include support for HA (pairs of routers can be deployed with support for transparent stateful failover); integration with Cisco's Radio Resource Management functions; and Active Directory/LDAP integration enhancements including cross-domain authentication and authorization and optimization for AAA and Directory queries.

The RoamAnywhere Mobility Router base priced at about $10,000 for the 2000 series and $28,000 for the 4000 series. The new features described above are expected to be available later in 2Q/2008.
